If you’re like many of us looking for ways to reduce your hydro bill even further, a new Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) could reduce the cost of your household electricity by applying a monthly credit of up to $50 directly to your bill.
This is good news for many in the 50+ Community on fixed incomes who are struggling with the rising cost of electricity in Ontario.
The amount of the credit depends on your combined household income and the number of people living in the home.
For example a single senior or couple with a household income less than $28,000 could reduce their monthly bill by $30. A family of 4 with a household income of between $28,001 and $39,000 could save up to $34.
If your home is electrically heated, or you rely on medical devices requiring a lot of electricity, the OESP offers a higher level of assistance.
The first step in assessing whether you qualify is to complete an on-line application available at www.OntarioElectricitySupport.ca
Information about your electricity bill as well as birthdates and names of all residents in your home along with your social insurance number are required.
Once the consent form is printed, signed and mailed, notification of eligibility will be provided and if approved, the credit will appear directly on your electricity bill in about six to eight weeks from the date of approval.
The on-line application is easy to complete however seniors may contact the Ontario Energy Board at 1-855-831-8151 or call their local utility company.
